Families Can Be Together Forever

This past weekend we had to go to a funeral and it was probably the best learning experience of my life. The funeral was for my great grandma her name was  Dorothy Caroline Johnson Nielson she was 93 years old. Her husband was buried in Bluff along with a ton of other Nielsons. Well we had to go over to Blanding Utah for the viewing and then to Bluff (ten minutes away from Blanding) for the funeral. My sister rode over with us and as we drove we talked about memories of playing in Blanding and how its crazy that our family was the big timers like the Jones,Pickering, Holts and Terrys in Enterprise.  We arrived a little late to Blanding that night so we got our rooms and just went to bed. The next morning we went to breakfast with my dad, his wife, and my brother and sister. We went to a restaurant called "The Old Timers".. in there were pictures everywhere of my ancestors from the1800s. Pictures from the Hand Cart Company pictures of Richard Jens Nielson (Founder of  Parowan and Bluff Utah) and his family. We left there and went to Bluff where my dad showed us the house he had grown up in,and the houses where Jens lived with his 2 wives. (He had 3 but 1 died in Cedar City and the other 2 lived in Bluff with him). After the funeral we went to the grave sight following the hurs. They layed my grandma down so sweetly next to her husband. They dedicated the grave sight and it was over. We kinda lingered around and looked at all the graves, and there in the fence was Richard Jens Nielson and his two wives and the head stone of his 3rd wife. Along with him was the grave of his son and I think a few other family members. I started to cry because the feeling of the spirit was so beautiful. It felt as if they were all standing near us, welcoming my grandma in to heaven. We took some family pictures while we were there and just enjoyed our selves and the feelings we all had. I have never learned something so heartfelt, and so precious... My dad told us a few more stories while we were in Monticelle that night at my Uncle R.T.'s house. It was so amazing to learn this and I knew that I needed to go or else we would have missed something as amazing as this. ( I dont have a picture of Coy with her, but this is my grandma Nielson with my niece and nephew, and our family picture while we were there)

  1. In an eery way I actually enjoy funerals because of those experiences! It's such a great reminder of the plan of salvation!
